Meilan is a pediatric endocrinologist at Cincinnati Children’s, where she serves as the Medical Director of the Differences of Sex Development (DSD) Center. She has lived, trained and worked in different countries and cultures – Singapore, the United Kingdom, New Zealand and Cincinnati, which has paved the way for the interdisciplinary care she provides for her patients.
As part of the Cincinnati Children’s DSD team, she has the privilege of working closely with different specialists from genetics, gynecology, urology, ethics and psychology, as well as with parent/family representatives who are members of the team. Working together, the team strives to provide holistic, integrated, interdisciplinary patient- and family-centered care at the highest level. Meilan and the Cincinnati team are members of the DSD Translational Research Network (DSD TRN), a consortium of teams across the US dedicated to standardizing and improving clinical care for those with DSD and advancing scientific knowledge in this field.
Meilan aspires to help patients and families learn about their conditions so that they can be empowered in their care and equipped to participate in shared clinical decision-making. She is involved in collaborative multi-center research to identify successful clinical practices and outcomes, which will inform creation of resources to facilitate shared decision-making in DSD care. She was part of a group through the DSD TRN that included individuals with DSD that developed an online DSD Resource Repository to guide patients and providers to vetted resources, available through Accord Alliance. She serves as co-chair of the Pediatric Endocrine Society DSD Special Interest Group, and was part of a subcommittee that developed a DSD Parent Educational video. Both these resources are publicly- available online.
Meilan enjoys traveling and spending time with her family, in Ohio and across the globe.
